Stephen Hawking, a Cambridge professor was very outspoken on many social and political issues. He spoke on many subjects including climate change and artificial intelligence.
With the death of Stephen Hawking, the world has lost a great mind.
Concerned about humanity and capitalism his last post of Reddit in 2016 warned that if things aren’t done right in the technology automation space it could actually throw everything so out of balance and make life much harder for the majority of the world instead of making it easier.
“If machines produce everything we need, the outcome will depend on how things are distributed,” Hawking wrote
His concerns over humanity have been greatly discussed, with such things like artificial intelligence viewed as dangerous because there could become a time where artificial intelligence might start to view humans as “ants”, which may threaten our safety.
“The real risk with AI isn’t malice but competence. A super-intelligent AI will be extremely good at accomplishing its goals, and if those goals aren’t aligned with ours, we’re in trouble,” he wrote.
“You’re probably not an evil ant-hater who steps on ants out of malice, but if you’re in charge of a hydroelectric green energy project and there’s an anthill in the region to be flooded, too bad for the ants. Let’s not place humanity in the position of those ants,” he said.
