The new course starts spring of 2019 at UC Berkeley, “Insider’s Guide to StartUps”.
Being co-taught by Guitar Hero co-creator Charles Huang.
This insiders guide to startup, undergraduate entrepreneurship course will start this spring and run every spring semester.
The two-unit lecture course Guide to Startups will have one-hour lectures taught by Huang and co-professor Umair Khan and other guest lecturers. Who better to learn from than someone who actually has been through it?
According to the Dean of Arts and Humanities Kathleen Donegan, they will be from various backgrounds.
Lecturers for Guide to Startups will include knowledge from companies such as Netflix, Facebook, Louis Vuitton, Khan Academy, The Quincy Jones Foundation along with numerous others. No one will be excluded from taking the Guide to StartUps course, although but the course will be aimed at art, science, and computer majors.
Both Huang and Khan believe this group of students has not been appropriately exposed to entrepreneurship.
Huang said. “The class is really taking the things that Letters and Science students are studying and really showing them what entrepreneurial opportunities exist for their background.”
The course description states that there are not enough entrepreneurs with humanitarian values, so the goal is to attract social entrepreneurs and help them see that entrepreneurship is not solely motivated by greed.
No one will be left out of the Guide to StartUps program; women and minority students are encouraged to learn from this group of highly qualified instructors.
Huang is a great example of someone who has succeeded in the entrepreneurial world. His major at UC Berkeley had been economics and Asian studies. Taking his knowledge he had the opportunity to study in Beijing.
What he learned in Beijing helped bring “Guitar Hero” to life. With sales of over $2 billion, this has been a huge success, after all, who hasn’t played at least one Guitar Hero game in their life?
