Sam’s Club Now Takes a Run at Amazon Go

Sam’s Club Now is opening up its first competitor to Amazon Go in Dallas, Texas.

There will be no cashiers or registers.

Sam’s Club is owned by Wal-Mart and is set to launch its first cashier-less store next month.

The new store is called “Sam’s Club Now”.

It is smaller than your regular Sam’s Club warehouse and is intended to be the first test site.

Sam’s will also be testing new technologies such as self-service returns, Scan & Go, and digital price tags, which shoppers will be able to transact using smartphones.

With no checkout lines, no registers, no cashiers, customers scan and pay for their items using the Sam’s Club Now app.

The app allows you to create a shopping list and helps you find your way around the store, automatically updating your list as you scan your purchase items into it.

Here is what you can expect from your Sam’s Club Now experience:

In the app, you then create a shopping list and will also use the app to pay for your selected items.

The navigation software in the app guides you directly to where each of your items is located in the store while giving you the best possible route to take.

Being able to find items was the No. 1 concern from members.

You can also ask the app questions verbally about where a specific product can be found, and if you still need assistance, no worries.

Even though there are no cashiers there will be Sam’s Club employees called “Member Hosts”, to cheerily assist you.

Jamie Iannone, CEO of SamsClub.com, wrote, “We’ll empower shoppers with new technology that will allow them to serve members better and faster.”

As you find items from your Sam’s Club Now app, your list will be adjusted and updated. The app is also your checkout register.

When you add items to your cart, you simply scan the product barcode with your smartphone.

The scanned items will be removed from your shopping list automatically, leaving only the products still on your list.

Once you’re done shopping there’s one more thing you need to do before you leave the store. At the exit door, you will find a Sam’s Club Now employee.

You present them with a barcode from your phone, and the employee scans to finish your purchase.

Currently, there are no plans to expand this technology to other stores.

First, Walmart wants to test the technology thoroughly. Sam’s Club doesn’t want to upset its associates or members.

Would you shop at a Sam’s Club Now store?
