Senator Ted Cruz

It was a tight race between incumbent Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke.

The race now over with candidate O’Rourke conceding defeat to Senator Ted Cruz late Tuesday night.

This had been by far the most closely watched midterm battle.

O’Rourke had waged quite a battle.

The 46-year-old from El Paso, Texas was the most funded and competitive Democrat to run for the red state in years. If he had won, he would be the first Democrat elected statewide in Texas in almost 25 years.

O’Rourke in a concession speech in his home city stated, “Tonight’s loss does nothing to diminish the way that I feel about Texas or this country. Getting to be with and see all of you tonight reminds me why we set out to do this in the first place. We’re not about being against anybody. ”

O’Rourke also pledged his support to Senator Ted Cruz and intends to work with him despite his loss.

Senator Ted Cruz shared his win with hundreds of supporters in a Houston hotel ballroom, “This was an election about hope and about the future, and the people of Texas rendered a verdict that we want a future with more jobs and more security and more freedom.”

Even though it had been a tight race, O’Rourke was not able to beat out Sen. Cruz.

Senator Ted Cruz stressed to voters that O’Rourke was too liberal on issues like health care, gun rights, the border, and taxes.

Many don’t want open borders, feeling this is not the right way for people to enter the country. This is one reason why many voted for Senator Ted Cruz.

Senator Ted Cruz fought was to maintain Texas’ longstanding culture and identity.

He can be confident that he delivered his message to Texans, and he can offer the state what they want.
