Trump Postpones Denmark Visit After Calling Danish Prime Minister Response ‘Nasty’

Trump had scheduled a trip to Denmark for Sept. 2 – 3, but tweeted Tuesday evening that he was “postponing” the meeting as a result of Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s indication that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland.

President Trump called Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen “nasty” and “not very nice” after she thwarted discussions relating to the sale of Greenland to the U.S.

“All she had to do was say no,” Trump said, adding that Frederiksen was “not very nice” in her refusal.

Trump also commented that the idea to purchase Greenland from Denmark was “just an idea”.

Danish Prime Minister’s reactions to Trump’s cancelation of the visit was that she was both disappointed and surprised.

The Danish PM did indicate that any idea of the sale of Greenland to the US “has clearly been rejected” but she did hope to further collaborate with the U.S. government on Arctic issues.
